M-City Condo Development, one small piece of the Mississauga Downtown21 Master Plan

 

M City Condos by Rogers & Urban Capital


A lot has been said about this $1.5 Billion, 10-Tower, 15-acre, 4.3 Million Square Foot master planned community by Rogers Real Estate Development Limited and Urban Capital Property Group. We know that this project has been 9 years in the making, and that this is a park and condominium project located in the core of downtown (City Centre) Mississauga between Confederation and Grand Park to the east and west and Burnhamthorpe and Webb to the north and south.

What you may not be aware of, is that this is just a very small part of Mississauga’s Downtown21 Master Plan. Which in-turn feeds into the provincial urban intensification plan for the Golden Horseshoe. The reasoning behind the Downtown21 Master Plan is to make the downtown core more vibrant, walkable, accessible, functional, and a place where 70,000 people (by the year 2031) can live, work, and enjoy life.

There are 6 guiding principles to the Master Plan:

Anyone who has visited Mississauga City Centre over the past 5 years will have seen the changes that have taken place, ranging from the Amacon’s Parkside Village, to Pinnacle’s Grand Park Towers, to the revitalization of Square One Shopping Centre, to the building and expansion of Sheridan College. It is all just small steps in transforming the downtown core into an urban core in the heart of Mississauga.

At the moment, Mississauga City Centre is a suburban neighbourhood, home to over 30,000 residents and 20,000 jobs in walking distance with a centralized community public square (Celebration Square) that can host community events throughout the year, and an evolving yet obsolete transit system.

Fast forward 15 years, the M-City Development, the Amacon Condo Developments, the Hurontario LRT, the City Centre Transit Renovations, Office Buildings, Shops, and Parks have all been completed. Mississauga City Centre has now changed from a Suburban neighbourhood to an Urban Centre that houses over 70,000 residents, with more jobs, shops, parks, and endless possibilities.
