6 Elements to Apply to Your Life to be Successful
The internet is rife with tips, tricks, and programs on how to be successful in the upcoming year. Lose weight fast, gain muscle quick, make thousands of dollars in the comfort of your own home, or by working only minutes a day. Don’t be one of the thousands who look for the quick way to success, be one of the few who chooses to put in the work, and to make the sacrifices to make a significant difference in your life and career. The following is a list of 6 elements that you should apply to your life to actually have a prosperous new year.
1) Be Daring
Yes, you need to have courage; you need to push your limits without fear. This is easier said than done but you will not experience significant growth is you stay in comfort zone. The most painful thing for us to do as humans is to grow, both physically and mentally. We aren’t suggesting that you jump out of a plane or go bungee jumping, but push your goals out further, increase your marketing budget significantly, and participate in a lead generation technique that makes you the most nervous. If you do not do this, you will continue to stay the same and talk to the same people. Eventually your leads will dry up, and your business will die.
2) Get a Grasp on Your Finances
I know we said to increase your marketing budget in #1, but we mean to increase it within reason. Are you living from paycheque to paycheque? Don’t know how you are going to cover your expenses for the rest of the month or year? That’s because you don’t have a Business Plan which is firmly planted in reality. Those who are the most successful Realtors know exactly how many contacts/touches they need to make to get a deal. In fact they have their days planned down to each minute. 3) Make Strategic Partnerships
You are looking to grow; you don’t need to try to do that alone. Your brokerage should be able to provide you with training, tips, and support to help you get your footing. But this is a business, not a job, and there are several other businesses that run hand-in-hand with real estate; namely Mortgages, Staging, Real Estate Law, Renovations, Home Insurance, just to name a few. You can pass leads back in forth and work through deals together. These partnerships can be a great pillar for your business growth while at the same time providing you with a complete service to provide to your clients.
4) Be Positive, Yet Realistic
It’s all about attitude baby! The real difference between those who are successful and those who fail is the ability to keep moving in the face of adversity. Anyone who has “made it” and tell you that they didn’t want to quit, is lying. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart, and Real Estate is a dog eat dog profession. You need to have a strong backbone, think skin, and in some cases a short memory. You will be surrounded by negativity, sometimes from those closest to you, you will need to find a way to be positive. Set-up realistic, daily goals, and don’t stop until you achieve them. Have the faith that if you keep doing what you’re, and if you keep moving forward, no matter how slowly, you will get to your destination.
5) Work Out & Eat Right
Thanks to the stressful nature of our profession, and our meal choices, heart-attacks is the #1 killer of Realtors. If we plan our days and our weeks out right, we can schedule time for meal preparation and daily workouts. This will not only help our health, but it will keep us energized and ready to attack the day. Let’s keep healthy, and have long, successful careers and lives.
6) Surround Yourself With Great Friends
One of the ways to stay positive is to surround yourself with positive thinking and like-minded friends. The best way to become that “new you” is to start spending time with top Realtors who have achieved what you want to achieve. Also make friends with fellow Realtors, you can grow, learn, share, and sympathize with each other. This doesn’t mean that you cut off all of your non-Realtor, or unsuccessful friends, these may be your life-long friends, family, and may one day be your clients. Just be careful, some of your friends and family may only see your failures, try to keep a healthy distance from the poison of negativity. But the most successful individuals in our business have a lot of friends, so don’t stop making friends, just know that not everyone wants to see you succeed.
